This has been demonstrated with the arrival of the pandemic, which has triggered the sales of laptops around the world, due to the increase in teleworking. Huawei itself has improved its laptop sales by 175% this spring, which is a good sign of its strength in this market.

Many people need to buy a laptop to work at home or study, but choosing one is not easy. That is why we have prepared this Huawei laptop buying guide, to choose the best model.

Huawei laptops are among the best on the market. They use state-of-the-art hardware, are well optimized, and do not cause problems. They are thin and light, so they are ideal to use anywhere or to take to work or college.

Huawei has several ranges with different objectives. Let's see how they differ, as well as a description of the models that you currently have in the catalog.

Huawei Matebook X Pro, analysis and opinion

Are Huawei laptops blocked by the United States?

The entire catalog of Huawei laptops sold in Spain does not have any type of lock. They come with Windows 10 out of the box and have the latest processors from AMD and Intel, as well as graphics chips from NVIDIA.

Also, on PC there are no limitations of mobile phones when installing operating systems and apps. You can install the system and the applications you want.

What kind of laptops are they?

Huawei's laptops fall into the Notebook category. Ultra-thin, lightweight laptops, ideal for transporting and using anywhere. They are designed for studying, working, and performing everyday tasks, including viewing multimedia content such as Netflix or Amazon Prime Video.

Although all of them can run games, it is not their function. They are not gaming laptops, but the most powerful ones can handle most games without problems, although with average graphic quality.

AMD or Intel
It is important to know that some models are available in two variants: with an Intel Core processor or AMD Ryzen. The performance is similar, but if you have preferences for a specific brand make sure you choose the correct model in the store. In the tables that we include in the model recommendations, we indicate the versions available with the two processors, as you will see later.

How are its four ranges different?

All Huawei laptops are MateBook, to differentiate them from tablets, which are MatePad.

MateBook E

They are convertible computers, that is, they can be used as laptops or as tablets because they have a touch screen and all the hardware is on the side of the screen, so the keyboard can be separated.

But it's still a Windows PC, not an Android tablet.

The MateBook E is no longer in the official Huawei catalog but can still be found in some stores.

MateBook D

They tend to be lighter laptops, with less powerful hardware (and also cheaper) than the MateBook, although with a larger screen. They are ideal for working or studying anywhere, as they are very convenient to transport. But they suffer a bit when carrying out demanding tasks (graphic editing, games, etc).

They are Huawei's SUVs. Powerful PCs that are used for everything: office automation, studies, graphics editing, games ... They are designed for people who use the laptop for different tasks or want a versatile model that offers good performance in any situation.

MateBook X Pro

They are the most professional versions. The most powerful hardware focused on productivity at work or studies. They are the most expensive models, but also those that can be demanded more.

The numbers

The names of the laptops have a number. It almost always refers to screen size. For example, a MateBook 13 has a 13-inch screen, and a MateBook D15, 15.6 inches.

The exception is the MateBook X Pro, where the number (2019 or 2020) refers to the year of release.

Exclusive technologiesHuawei's laptops include the latest PC hardware technologies from top brands: Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, etc. But it also releases its technologies that you will not find in other computers. It is important to know them because they can help you decide. Especially if you have a Huawei mobile.

Huawei laptops are practically the only ones that have NFC. They are not used for payments in establishments, since their function is to automatically communicate with a Huawei mobile when it is close enough.

Huawei MateBook D14 (2020) and D15 (2020)
As we discussed in the introduction, MateBook D is the most affordable computer. These are ultra-light computers with an aluminum casing weighing just 1.5 kilos and 17 mm thick, designed to be carried from one place to another or used on the legs, without being heavy.

The first important fact is that we are talking about laptops with a large screen (14 and 15.6 inches) but with one of the smallest sizes, thanks to a screen/body ratio of 87% in the D15, with frames of only 5.3mm thick.

The MateBook D14 cuts the figure even further with bezels of just 4.8 millimeters and a screen-to-body ratio of 84%. The weight stays at 1.38 Kg.

The screen is a 16: 9 IPS panel with FullHD resolution and a maximum opening angle of 178º. It has been certified by TUV Rheinland for low blue light emission, reducing eye strain. The brightness reaches 250 nits.

The first differences are found in the processor. The MateBook D14 is only available with AMD Ryzen 5 3500U CPUs, with 4 cores and 8 threads clocked at 2.1 GHz and 3.7 GHz boost.

On the other hand, the MateBook D15 model in addition to that processor there is another more powerful version with AMD Ryzen 7 3700U, and one with Intel Core i5-10210U. All of them have 8 GB of RAM.

In the storage section, they have a 512 GB SSD, while the D15 can also mount a 256 GB SSD and a 1 TB hard drive.

The rest of the hardware is of the latest generation, with 2 x MIMO dual-band ac WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, USB 3.0 connectors, fingerprint reader, and fast charging at 65 W via USB Type C that recharges the battery to 53% in only 30 minutes.
