How to limit app usage time on Android

Digital Welfare is a tool that reached users in Spain on Android Pie. It is a tool with which you can control the time we use your mobile, in addition to the phone applications. Not all brands on Android have this tool, although brands like Huawei have created their own alternatives.

A feature of interest in a tool like Digital Welfare is being able to control how much time you spend in an app. Also, you can set limits on the usage time of an app on Android, so you'll avoid using an app more than it should.

Control the time you spend in each app on Android

Many users look to be able to know the time they spend using their Android phone and the time they spend within each app on the device. This will allow us to see if we are using any application for a longer time than desired, or the appropriate one. So it's very important information, which we can see on our phone. The steps for this are:

  • Open the Settings.
  • Look for the Digital Wellness section (also called Digital Health or Digital Balance, depending on the brand).
  • Go to that section.
  • Check which apps you use the most.

In this section, we are given the time we spend each day using the phone or looking at the screen. You can also see the time you've spent using each app on your device. Also, it allows you to see the evolution of that use over time so that you will be able to compare the use you have made to measure the days pass.

Limit application usage time

If you want to avoid using some apps for too long, because you end up wasting time using them, you can set a daily time limit for using them. Thanks to this limit we will not misuse them, it can help us to learn how to better manage the use of apps on Android. If you want to do this, the steps to follow are:

  • Open the Settings.
  • Look for the Digital Welfare or Digital Health section.
  • Go into this section.
  • Look for phone usage statistics.
  • Tap the app you want to limit usage.
  • Find the option to limit or timer.
  • Sets the usage time.

Having that limit, when you've used that app for the right time (one hour, for example), you'll be skipped by a notification telling you that you've reached the daily usage time set for it on Android. Whenever you want, you can adjust that time limit, in case you want to expand or reduce it.

Putting a time limit on Huawei Digital Balance

If you have a Huawei phone, the Chinese brand uses Digital Balance, which is its answer to Digital Welfare, which we have already told you about. It gives us the same functions, so you can easily limit the time to use an app on your phone. In case you have a Huawei phone, you can do so with these steps:

  • Open the settings.
  • Go to Digital Balance.
  • Tap App limits.
  • Select the app or game in question.
  • Set a time limit.
  • Accept.
