Microsoft Surface Laptop Go: five features that make it one of the best laptops of the moment

Surface Book 2 Review: Meet Microsoft's Beefy, Fast, Everything Machine | WIRED

Microsoft wants to stand up to all its competitors, not only Apple but also Google and its Chromebooks. That's why you now have on sale your Surface Laptop Go, a laptop model that promises a lot.

Buying the new Microsoft Surface Laptop Go is an appetizing option, something you're sure to be thinking about if you've taken a look at its features and price, precisely what the brand intended when it went on sale.

It is a much cheaper laptop than the Surface Laptop 3, for example, and its most basic version costs only 659 euros as an official price, although we may see it go down as the months go by.

That said, even at the original cost it's almost certainly worth buying the Surface Laptop Go, especially if you're looking for a low-weight laptop, with Windows 10and running smoothly, although there are other features worth noting.

This computer has an eye on MacBook Air, but also on all of Google's new Chromebooks, which have undoubtedly been introduced as cheap laptops for students, a segment that Microsoft wants to attack.

Here are some of its main technical features:

  • Screen Size: 12.4"
  • Screen resolution: Full HD
  • Weight: 1.1 kg
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-1035G1
  • RAM: 4GB DDR4 (configurable)
  • Storage: 64GB eMMC (configurable)

To make it easy for you, we've compiled some of the key features of Microsoft's new PC.

Ultralight really: just 1.1kg weight
One of the strengths of this computer is its weight, or rather the lack of it. It stays at only 1.1 kg in total, so it matches the MacBook Air in this regard.

Few laptops adjust both the price, at least in the 600 euro strip, something worth pointing out as a point in their favour, especially if you want a PC that you can carry back and forth in the backpack without too many problems.

Also, the design not only stands out for very low weight but for the quality of the finishes, reminiscent of that of premium laptops that cost almost twice as much.

Your keyboard is also a detail that those who work constantly typing will like: it is short-distance, something that saves a lot of time and helps to type better and faster.

Up to 13 hours of battery life
When you buy a laptop to work or study and it also weighs little, it's because you plan to take it somewhere. However, in weight, you never realize that besides the computer, you're going to have to carry the charger as well.

With the Surface Laptop Go, you may be able to save this, which is that its battery reaches up to 13 hours of battery life, depending on the clear use you give it throughout the day. Hardly you will be able to exceed eight hours in total, a very good fact.

With it, you can leave home, make your normal workday (or go to all the corresponding classes) and then come back without having to charge the laptop at any time, a luxury that few in the Windows 10 world can afford.

Touchscreen: laptop with a little tablet
One of the advantages of Microsoft Surface Laptop Go is that in addition to laptop, it has a tablet soul. Its 12.4" display with Full HD resolution features a touchpad, something useful when selecting the text, zooming or editing images.

If you're used to working on a tablet, you'll probably appreciate being able to interact directly with your laptop screen, which makes things much easier under certain circumstances.

At least for now, it's by no use in an ultrabook to have a touchscreen.

Also, Microsoft uses its PixelSensetechnology here, common to all its products and which significantly improves the sharpness, colour quality and brightness of the screen even in broad daylight.

Windows 10 will fit like a glove: one of the advantages of Microsoft computers
One of the things that makes Apple products perform so well, in the long run, is that the same brand designs software and hardware, so both fit perfectly. With Android and Windows, it doesn't usually happen that way.

However, with Surfaces, this is one of the advantages to consider: its operating system comes as a ring to the finger to the hardware, and it is Microsoft that is behind both.

The specifications are what they are, no doubt, although squeezing them to the fullest is something that the US firm has surely achieved this time.

The best Microsoft Surface laptop or tablet for you

Microsoft adjusts the price to the maximum, at least in the most basic model of all

The price of this laptop is 629o, although this figure is that of the model that "only" has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, so almost certainly you will need to expand its capacity with a microSD.

That said, it's a very good price when you consider your screen, its weight and it has the 10th Generation Intel Core i5. Here Microsoft has tried to throw the house out the window and get as close as possible to Chromebooks, with some success also.

However, if you're going to need a little more power, you can choose some of the other versions of this Surface Laptop Go, although we've already warned you that they're not that cheap:

  • Surface Laptop Go with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage for $629
  • Surface Laptop Go with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage for $799
  • Surface Laptop Go with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage for $9.99
