Another manufacturer outperform Apple in mobile sales worldwide

Apple says iPhone 12 bookings have exceeded all of its forecasts, but for now, sales figures continue to drop, as in the last 2 or 3 years.

The RT website has collected smartphone figures sent to stores, provided by statistics firms International Data Corporation (IDC), Counterpoint and Canalys, and joint figures indicate that Apple has ceased to be the world's third-largest mobile manufacturer, at least in the third quarter of 2020, the latest statistical data.

According to mobile figures sent to stores, Xiaomi has surpassed Apple worldwide by selling between 46.2 and 47.1 million smartphones in the third quarter of 2020.

According to IDC, in the same period, Apple sold 41.6 million mobile phones, falling by 10% compared to last year. Canalys sets the figure at 43.2 million.

It is a great achievement for Xiaomi, which is also triumphing widely in Spain, where it has already become the company that sells the most mobiles in our country, surpassing Huawei and Samsung.

Just a few weeks ago Huawei became a global sales leader, beating Samsung. However, in the third quarter, it has suffered a major slump, which Xiaomi and Samsung itself have taken advantage of.

The Korean company regains the global crown it has maintained for so many years by sending 80 million mobile phones in the third quarter of 2020. Huawei, on the other hand, falls to just 30 million mobiles served.

Some experts believe that users who have stopped buying Huawei have moved to Xiaomi, as the figures correspond: Huawei has sold 15.1 million less, and Xiaomi rises 14.5 million.

In Europe, Huawei has fallen by 25%, while Xiaomi has increased its sales by 88%.

It is difficult to interpret these figures because we experience anomaly events, such as the U.S. blockade of Huawei, which has recently softened, or the Covid-19 pandemic.

But the reality is that global purchasing power has come down because of the crisis, and this goes against companies that only sell high-end mobiles, such as Apple. On the contrary, companies that have in their catalogue dozens of models of all prices, such as Samsung or Xiaomi, have greater manoeuvrability to deal with crises.
