What you need to do on google photos by june 1, 2021

As you know, on June 1, 2021, Google Photos will no longer be free, so all photo and video storage space will consume the 15 gigabytes shared with Gmail and Google Drive.

We have a few months to prepare, even to look for alternatives, although the ones at the moment are not as sophisticated as Google Photos and are often more limited or expensive.

Before June 1, 2021, there is a very important task that we have to do: free up the space that Google Photos is currently occupying, so that we reach the deadline starting from scratch.

As you can see, you have to go to photos.google.com/settings and click on "Recover Space" after confirming that the "high quality" option is enabled on all mobiles and computers from where you back up photos.

In that same option, you can exit a warning indicating how much backup time you will have free with the currently available space, a data that calculates taking into account the rate of backup that you are used to.

As a tip:

  • Scan as many photos as possible until June 1 and upload them to Google Photos as long as it's free.
  • When the time comes, starting June 1, turn off automatic backup of Whatsapp photos, which take up the most space.
  •  If you are an Amazon Prime subscriber, use Amazon Photos, as it does offer unlimited space for users. In my case, I use Amazon Prime for photos that are not very important and Google Photos for which I want to have very well classified, that way I still have many years of storage with the current plan.
