Orange's 5G will reach 93 cities in Spain by the end of the year

In September Orange began with the deployment of its 5G network in Spain, with its launch in the largest cities in the country. Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and Malaga became the first to have access, although the operator already confirmed that before the end of this year it would be available in more cities.

Currently, there are a total of 45 cities in Spain that can enjoy the 5G NSA of Orange. To those mentioned above have been added cities such as Pamplona, Logroño or Zaragoza in these months. Also, a few more will still be added before the end of this month.

Orange's 5G in 93 cities

As announced by Orange itself, by the end of 2020, it will be a total of 93 cities in Spain that will have access to its 5G network. Thanks to this, the operator's customers will be able to navigate at a faster speed than they had with the 4G. This allows them to make the most of their data rates with the operator.

It is further mentioned that the process has already begun so that these cities will have access to this new standard. Although they have said the number of cities and are deploying between them, it is not known which cities in which the operator is currently deploying 5G. On the coverage map on its website, those cities are also not appreciated.

5G thus continues its progress in Spain, having a presence in the main cities. Orange followed in Movistar's footsteps in September with the deployment of its network in several cities. The operator has 16 mobile customers in Spain, so a good percentage of them will already be able to use the new standard before the end of the year.

The deployment is taking place in phases because first, the operator has used two different technologies to supply 5G NSA to its customers by 2020. The NSA (non-standalone) itself has been used on nodes with 3.5 GHz antennas and also 5G NSA DSS (dynamic spectrum sharing), which allows 4G LTE and 5G to coexist over the same band. During the first quarter of 2021, 700 MHz of the radio spectrum will be auctioned, which is the start of the 5G SA, which will improve indoor coverage.
