Tiktok officially arrived on Samsung TVs



Exclusively, came a new TikTok app for Samsung smart TVs. This is a version with some differences from its mobile counterpart.

The launch took place yesterday, exclusively for the UK, but will gradually expand its availability across Europe.

Short viral videos in the comfort of your TV

The new app, built for the Tizen operating system, has been created specifically for a home viewing experience, allowing people to view the 'For You' and 'Following' feeds, as well as most of the content desired and viewed in TikTok. This content has been organized into 12 categories ranging from games and comedy to food and animals.

Users will be able to play, like and comment on trending videos, allowing households to experience and enjoy TikTok content on one more platform. Users will also be able to block or mark content they are not interested in, with TikTok automatically operating in restricted mode a feature that filters content that may not be suitable for all audiences. 



Also, if you don't sign in to the platform, you'll always be able to use the app anyway, but without the ability to customize the available content, limiting yourself to the global trends of the moment.

From yesterday, TikTok can be accessed on all Samsung Smart TV models from 2018-2020 onwards that include their Samsung 4K and 8K TVs, as well as other of its products, such as its Smart Monitor, The Premiere, The Frame and The Serif.

TikTok can be easily downloaded via the Samsung Smart TV App Store, for now only in the UK and also, it will now come preloaded on all new Samsung TVs purchased.

A strategic movement between the two companies

Rich Waterworth, General Manager of TikTok UK, said: "Last year has drastically changed the way we live, work and play. More of us spend more time at home, watching TV with loved ones and enjoying the content that entertains and educates through our smartphones. This has led us to think about how we can bring TikTok's creativity and joy to more people across the UK. Our new TikTok app will do just that, giving millions of Samsung TV owners access to our trend recipe hacks, comedy sketches, challenges and more – right in living rooms across the country."



This is not TikTok's first foray into the television market. Previously, a Fire TV version of Amazon was already available. However, the alternative available for these devices consists of a curated selection of platform content. By contrast, what comes to Samsung is a much closer version to the one we know from a mobile or the web.

The expansion of this app to other territories was not confirmed with dates. It will arrive in Spain at some point, as it was announced (without dates) its expansion throughout Europe. For Latin America, the uncertainty is greater, as the announcement makes no mention of this territory, at least for now.
