MediaTek introduces the 6nm Dimensity 1200 SoC with 5G enhancements and up to 200MP photos

Dimensity 1100 and Dimensity 1200 are the new MediaTek chipsets that want to improve the 5G mobile experience and work with 200 Mpx photos.

Competition between different processor manufacturers is not only based on outperforming the competition, but also on being up to date with the latest technologies and boosting them with their chips. As an example, we can use the chipsets presented by MediaTek: Dimensity 1200 and Dimensity 1100, which are uploaded to 5G technology to gain presence in the mobile market.

These new 6nm SoCs feature artificial intelligence features focused on making the most of growing connectivity, but also working with cameras and the multimedia aspect of phones, including refresh rates.

MediaTek Dimensity 1200 and 1100 integrate a 5G modem that supports connectivity from previous generations, from 2G to the latest generations, and adds significant improvements in 5G HSR and 5G Elevator modes that eliminate connection problems and ensure data flows and is treated like never before.

Both chipsets are manufactured using 6nm TSMC technology. In terms of performance, Dimensity 1200 features an eight-core CPU with Arm Cortex A78 operating at up to 3 GHz and adding a nine-core GPU and a six-core MediaTek APU 3.0. Dimensity 1100 includes four Arm Cortex-A78 cores and reaches 2.6 GHz, with nine-core Arm Mali-G77 GPUs.

In the multimedia aspect, Dimensity 1200 can work with 200 Mpx photos and record 4k HDR video, while Dimensity 1100 with 108 Mpx images. They include a new MediaTek hexa-core AI capable of reducing latency like never before and controlling power consumption when working with these resolutions.

Also, they can work with screens that have ultra-fast refresh rates of 144 and 168 Hz, something especially important seen how this aspect progresses on mobiles now that we are not surprised to find some with 120 Hz, especially on gaming mobiles.

Both are ready to be released and are expected to arrive at the latest in the early second quarter of 2021. MediaTek Dimensity 1200 and 1100 have already received the certifications that prove their validity when working with 5G, now all that remains is to discover which mobiles are the first to integrate them.
