How to make WhatsApp calls and video calls on your computer

WhatsApp calls and video calls on your computer are now available to all users. We tell you how you can use this new feature in WhatsApp for desktop.

A few weeks ago, one of WhatsApp's most in-demand computer features arrived for a closed group of users: calls and video calls. At the moment, this feature was only available in the Windows 10 app for some users, but now it can be used by everyone.

This has been announced by Facebook's owned instant messaging app via a release, where it informs users that WhatsApp desktop calls and video calls are now available to everyone.

Thanks to this, you now have the possibility to make WhatsApp voice and video calls from your PC's desktop application. The operating systems that support the feature are Windows 10 64-bit version 1903 and later, and macOS 10.13 and later, although we have tested it and for the time being on Mac, the calls are not operational.

Note that the feature has only reached Windows and Mac desktop apps, so you still can't make calls or video calls from WhatsApp Web.

Given the controversy that WhatsApp's new privacy policy is stirring up, the platform recalls in its statement that this means of communication is totally private and secure. "WhatsApp calls and video calls are end-to-end encrypted, so WhatsApp can't see or listen to them, regardless of whether you're calling from your phone or computer," the company recalls.

If you're wondering how to make WhatsApp calls and video calls on your computer, pay attention because we explain it step by step:

  • First, you have to install WhatsApp Desktop on your PC, in case you don't already have it. It is available for Windows and Mac and you can download it from this link.
  • Launch the desktop app, enter the individual chat of the person you want to call, and click the voice call or video call icon.
  • A new window will open with all the controls of the call, as well as the image in case it is a video call.
  • When the call is over, all you have to do is hang up on the red button.

Initially, only individual calls and video calls are available, and groups are expected to arrive soon.
