FIFA 21: you can now "take a look" at packages before buying them

Two years after EA described the loot boxes in the FIFA series as "surprise mechanics", the publisher seems to have finally backtracked on this issue. Indeed, EA has announced that from today, it will be possible to see what is in the FIFA 21 packs before purchasing them, during the FUTball Ultimate Team Pack Festival.

With a growing number of lawsuits citing the purchase of gambling loot boxes and charities publishing research proving these links, it was only a matter of time before EA gave in.

So EA has added the ability to see the inside of packages in FIFA 21 with a system called Ultimate Team Preview Pack. This system will then allow the user to decide whether it is worth investing in their virtual currency or not.

However, to prevent users from abusing this possibility, once you preview the pack and others of the same type will be placed on an update timer.

During this period (more than 20 hours, according to the examples shown by EA itself), you won't be able to see any more previews, but you will still be able to buy the previously scanned pack.

It should also be noted that EA adds the following in the disclaimer:

WE ARE CONSTANTLY TRYING TO IMPROVE THE FIFA EXPERIENCE FOR EVERYONE. SO THIS ARTICLE MAY BECOME OBSOLETE AS WE MAKE CHANGES TO KEEP OUR GAME FUN FOR EVERYONE.

We don't know what this sentence can mean, but it is likely that, based on user feedback, this new feature may undergo changes shortly.

Be that as it may, this is certainly a significant change in FIFA's in-game procurement management, even though it is the result of many controversies and lawsuits against the loot box system, often used by users who have not yet reached the age of majority.
