Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3: release date, price, models and everything we think we know about them

Since Samsung started in the field of foldable devices with the Samsung Galaxy Fold, we have already seen several generations and form factors. Now, after the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, we expect the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3, two devices with internal folding screens that would follow the formats we have seen in the brand.

These formats are the book type, or what translates in practice as a hybrid between mobile and tablet, which corresponds to the Fold line, and the mobile cover or shell type (clamshell), which corresponds to the Flip. The leaks indicate that the brand would unify the nomenclatures with that "Z" that already went on to incorporate the Z Fold 2 and matching the number, although there has not been a second Flip so far, but above all what they show us is the design of the future foldable of Samsung.

What will be the price of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3?

Samsung's previous foldable had the following starting prices:

  • Samsung Galaxy Z fold 2: 2.009 euros
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip: 1,550 euros

Normally, between different generations, the price is maintained, but curiously in SamMobile, they pointed out that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 could come out for a price 20% lower than that of its predecessor, with what would be for about 1,600 euros.

Although what is also rumored is that perhaps Samsung has considered releasing something like a FE model for its next foldable, in the style of the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (cheaper). The price they aim for the supposed Z Flip FE would be around 1,000 euros, which fits with what the manufacturer has recently said about"making the foldable category more mainstream".

What models will there be of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3?

By mere deduction and according to the renders that we will detail below, it is possible to think that there will be an iteration of each format. That is, a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3, probably with different variants depending on RAM and storage (and perhaps processor, as usually happens with Samsung depending on the market).

In the previous point, we mentioned the rumor that they might be preparing an FE version of each. It's not something that sounds very strong and we haven't seen it supported by renders, but it's early to rule it out, so for now it will have to be considered as a possibility. If so, there would be four models:

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 FE
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 FE

How will the design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 be?

By precedent, Evan Blass is given quite a few points of credibility when he leaks something and the renders he showed look, once again, like the leak of official images. Without even knowing if this is so, what we saw was the design of these two foldable partially.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 would retain a lot of DNA from its predecessor. The outer cover of the hinge seems to fit in the same way as those of the two halves of the screen, and the edge of the inner screen also seems to store proportions and shape.

One of the most striking changes would be the design of the rear module, which will apparently be more compact. This time it would be more curved and with the vertical arrangement of the cameras, like a traffic light, unlike the rectangular module that we saw in the Z Fold 2.

The screens, as leaked, would keep the diagonals, so that the external one would again occupy practically the entire front. We saw that best with the 91Mobiles leak, focused on the Fold (and nothing from the Flip) but showing the colors and perspectives.

There is an issue that we see and do not see according to the source: the insertion of the front camera. While a first leak pointed to a camera under the screen, like that of the ZTE Axon 20 5G, as the renders of 91Mobiles, but those of Blass showed the internal front camera as we saw it in the Z Fold 2, that is, with a hole in the screen.

IN fact, despite Samsung's pursuit of leaks, Blass continues to show them and the latest GIFs of Samsung's foldable reaffirm the supposed official images it already leaked.

This would "confirm" (not officially, but at the level of rumors) the designs of both phones and the fact that they had inserted the front camera with the hole, at least in the case of the Z Fold 3 (because in the Flip you do not see front camera). We also see that the new camera module and that neither has an audio minijack, the dual speaker of the Z Fold 3, and the new design of the external cover of the Z Flip 3.

Otherwise, the fingerprint reader would stay on one side and we wouldn't see the notch on the metal edges that drew one side of the Z Fold 2. Considering that the screens seem to be maintained, we could say that the dimensions in principle would also be similar.

The design of the Z Flip 3 would also drink a lot from the first Z Flip, although thanks to blass render we see that it would change the appearance of the lid that fits the external cameras and the small LED. We also see that there would be a different finish, shaded, that this LED would be larger and that there would be two external cameras vertically, talking in the same way about a front camera under the screen.

From the renders that have been filtered, it seems to be more square. And the rumored colors are green, violet, beige, gray, black, dark blue pink, and white, light colors in total.

Will the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 have 5G?

To this question, we can almost answer that the doubt offends. Without knowing for sure the processors, we can almost certainly say that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 will have 5G. Just for context and for what we will now discuss at the chip level, it is the most logical thing to do.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3: all the features we know

The Z Flip 3 hasn't been said too much about the features so far, but there are some supposed facts about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. The logical thing is that both are tops of range, so seeing the ones of this one we can try to infer those of the Flip in some sections.

As we said before, the screens of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 are expected to be the same in size as those of the Z Fold 2. This would be equivalent to the following:

  • Internal 7.55-inch folding screen, with a refresh rate of up to 120 hertz.
  • The internal folding screen of 6.23 inches, with a refresh rate of up to 120 hertz, and an external of 3 inches.

Perhaps in the Flip 3, we will see a lower resolution, considering that the Z Flip had an internal panel with FullHD+ resolution and the first Fold already went up to the QHD for its flexible display. At least what it looks like is that the 120Hz refresh rate would reach Samsung's foldable– probably with that automatic adjustment we saw already on the Galaxy S21.

For the Z Flip 3, there is talk that the exterior LED would become a 1.9-inch color screen from which to view from the watch to the playback control. The internal flexible screen would keep the 6.7-inch AMOLED, although perhaps as we mentioned before the mobile fits it into a more square shape (folded).

For the processor of the Z Fold 3, there are several leak crossovers. On the one hand, they point to the new, new Snapdragon 888+ and/or a more powerful version of the Exynos 2100, although it would be quite likely to see the Snapdragon 888, which after all is quite similar to its recent evolution.

It alludes to 12/16 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, plus S Pen support, although only the S Pen Pro model and for the Z Fold 3. An issue that adds more sugar to the end-of-note theory, peppered by what Samsung itself apparently said about the note's launch this year.

The battery would be 4,380 mAh (less than that of the Z Fold 2) and the fast charge would be 25 watts. And apparently, it would come without a charger, like the S21.

How are the cameras of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 going to be?

Something similar to what we talked about before happens about the cameras: there is little information for now and little data is pointed out about the Fold. Apparently, the cameras of the Z Fold 3 will be very similar to what we have seen on the Samsung Galaxy S21 and Samsung Galaxy S21+. The main camera is expected to integrate a 12-megapixel sensor, with a lens with an f/1.76 aperture, so it wouldn't have the Galaxy S21 Ultra's 108megapixels.

The other two would correspond to a telephoto lens and an ultra-wide angle, also with 12-megapixel sensors. And for the front there is talk of a sensor of 16 megapixels, we will see if under the screen or with the lens peeking out. About the Z Flip at the moment there is no talk of specifications.
